(NaturalNews) Eating grapes and other fruits rich in potassium has been shown to reduce rheumatoid arthritis symptoms preventing painful gout attacks. Chilled, baked, roasted, or grilled, grapes enhance all foods from appetizers to salads and side dishes. It has recently been recognized that adding grapes to the diet can also lower uric acid in the blood stream helping to prevent gout. Grapes may be eaten straight-up or blended into a fruit juice smoothie with other fruits or vegetable juices to help maintain alkalinity in the blood and urine.

Grapes Help Dissolve Uric Acid Crystals for Natural Pain Relief

When the blood and urine are kept slightly alkaline, acid wastes are more easily eliminated resulting in reduced attacks of rheumatoid arthritis symptoms and painful gout recurrences. Uric acid crystals, formed as a result of lowered kidney function, are dissolved in alkaline urine, allowing them to be removed from the blood stream and preventing deposits in the joints of gout patients.

Regular meals or snacks may be modified with additional nutrition by including grapes. Create a fruit juice swirl by mixing grapes in a blender with strawberries, blue berries, tart cherries, a spoonful of raw honey or maple syrup and a splash of water for a delicious snack and arthritis pain management.

Avoid syrup on pancakes and top them with grapes and strawberries instead. Snack on grapes to quench hunger twinges or thirst, adding to the body`s ability to protect itself against debilitating arthritis joint pain and agonizing gout flare-ups. Rather than consuming harmful drugs and medicines with possible side effects, have grapes on hand for gout pain relief along with other high potassium berries and fruits. Grapes are high in Vitamins A and C and loaded with antioxidants.

Bioflavonoids, Quercetin, Antioxidants and Vitamin C Relieve Rheumatoid Arthritis Join Pain

Buy grapes or grape juice that is organically grown. Both grapes and strawberries are known to absorb high amounts of pesticides through their thin skins, making non-organic versions of these fruits much less desirable.

Red grapes contain a bioflavonoid known as quercetin. This powerful antioxidant operates with Vitamin C to stimulate the immune system to fight infection, cancer, and inflammation and to relieve painful rheumatoid arthritis symptoms offering joint and muscle pain relief for gout and arthritis patients.

Eating Grapes Provides Pycnogenol and Resveratrol Fighting Cancer, Gout and Arthritis

The seeds in grapes contain a substance called pycnogenols. Another antioxidant, pycnogenols aid in fighting all forms of arthritis pain, cardiovascular problems, stress, and allergies.

Researchers at the University of Illinois report how the presence of resveratrol, found in grapes, slows down or stops the growth of benign and malignant tumors. Studies show resveratrol inhibits tumor growth at the initiation, promotion, and progression stages.
France`s Liver Research Study Group claims resveratrol helps prevent liver cancer by blocking the invasion of tumor cells. Science laboratories report findings that it stops the development of an enzyme linked to breast cancer as well as offering rejuvenating effects on skin, keeping it more elastic and younger looking.

Flavonoids in Purple Grapes Help Prevent Cardiovascular Disease

The University of Wisconsin`s research shows that flavonoids found in purple grape juice prevent thickening of the arteries that supply blood to the heart. Researchers continue to study the properties of grapes in the nation`s fight against cancer, heart disease, arthritis and gout joint pain.

California leads the United States in producing the fresh grape crop. New York is second in grape production followed by Washington. Include some grapes in the diet every day for overall good health, as a natural gout cure and for rheumatoid arthritis joint pain relief.

(NaturalNews) Noni, also known as Morinda citrifolia, is a fruit that has been consumed for thousands of years and can be found in various parts of the world, but it is most well known today as the Polynesian superfood from Hawaii and Tahiti. It is capable of growing in difficult terrains including areas where volcanoes have erupted and deposited lava. This superfruit is truly volcanic in its ability to deliver a wide range of healing benefits. Of particular note is its potential for providing relief from pain.

Dr. Ralph Heinicke first began to study the compounds in noni in the 1970`s at the University of Hawaii. There, he discovered a key phytonutrient found in noni called xeronine, which he patented in 1981. He found that this ingredient, as well as proxeronine - which makes up the building blocks of xeronine - played a key role in noni`s ability to assist in the management of pain.

The body already makes some proxeronine, and subsequently, xeronine, but it tends to be in short supply relative to demands for it throughout the body. The primary function of xeronine in the body is to regulate the shape and rigidity of certain proteins and help manage a wide range of physiological responses. Normally, proxeronine is stored in the liver and is periodically released into the bloodstream for absorption by organs as needed. Human tissue cells contain receptor sites for the absorption of xeronine. Regarding pain relief, xeronine converts certain brain receptor proteins into active sites for the absorption of endorphins. Studies have shown an analgesic (pain relief) effect in mice, and in a 1990 study of 10,000 patients testing the efficacy of noni for a wide range of health issues, pain reduction was registered by 88% of the studies` participants.

While noni has only minimal amounts of xeronine, it has enormous quantities of proxeronine, which is the precursor for xeronine that provides the raw materials for its production. Dr. Heinicke also found that noni contains proxeroninase, an enzyme which plays a key role in the synthesis of xeronine and serotonin, a process which is enhanced even further when taken on an empty stomach.

Noni is most commonly consumed as a liquid. Considering that much of noni`s nutrient profile includes what is found in the pulp of the fruit, look for products that include the pulp. It can take a period of time to get acclimated to the taste of noni, as it tends to have a pungent odor and bitter taste, but the benefits are well worth it.

(NaturalNews) In Part I of this series, we discussed the symptoms and causes of a bipolar disorder, together with an overall diet plan. This segment will go into detail in outlining the proper diet and supplements necessary for treatment.

Processed foods should be eliminated. Not only have they been altered from their natural state, but they also contain harmful additives that aggravate manic depressive symptoms, together with contributing to poor health.

Oily fish containing Omega 3's are important dietary considerations for addressing bipolar disorder. Some good choices are salmon, herring, and mackerel.

L-tyrosine is an amino acid that the body uses for the production of neurotransmitter serotonin which has been found to lessen the symptoms of bipolar disorder. Low levels of l-tyrosine reduce serotonin levels causing depression. L-tyrosine levels can be increased by eating dairy products, fish, meats, wheat, and oats.

Carbohydrates are an essential energy source for the body. However, unhealthy carbohydrates will only result in too much sugar, causing those very mood swings we are trying so hard to prevent. Healthy carbohydrates can be found in fruits, vegetables and whole grains. Foods containing healthy carbs include apples, oranges, peaches, grapefruit, carrots, brussels sprouts, beans, and whole wheat bread. Exercise caution when buying products such as bread. Many that say they are whole wheat are nothing of the sort. Read the ingredients and make sure that it is 100% whole wheat and that it does not contain "enriched" or "bleached" flour.

Medications used to treat this disorder come with serious side effects. There are natural effective means that are also less costly. Here are some of the best ones:

* Lithium orotate, a natural alternative to the normally prescribed lithium carbonate or lithium citrate, helps to control manic symptoms. This type of lithium releases an orotate ion into the bloodstream and brain instead of a carbonated ion. It has the same benefits as the prescription lithium carbonate, without the side effects. Another advantage in taking lithium orotate is that lesser amounts are needed to create the higher blood levels needed to obtain the desired effect. The reason that lesser amounts are needed is because prescription lithium is poorly absorbed by cells, necessitating higher amounts for a satisfactory therapeutic effect. Unfortunately, these higher amounts cause blood levels to be so high that they border on toxic levels. Additionally, prescription lithium can affect thyroid and kidney function.

* Omega 3 fatty acids have shown to decrease the incidence of manic episodes while prolonging its intervals. Omega 3 fatty acids can be found in fish and over the counter supplements. Careful attention should be given in ensuring that these supplements are of a high quality, natural, and not synthetic and petroleum based. Another excellent source of Omega 3's is flaxseed and flaxseed oil.

* Supplementing with magnesium is very important. A magnesium deficiency can lead to emotional, mental, and nervous disorders. Additionally, it is estimated that as many as 90 to 95% of Americans are deficient in this important mineral. It is important to note that calcium and magnesium act synergistically in the body. When supplementing with calcium and magnesium one should do so at a ratio of 1:2 or 1:3.

* A deficiency in vitamin B12 has also been linked to bipolar disorder.

* Choline has been shown to be beneficial in addressing bipolar disease, particularly when taking lithium.

Other supplements effective in treating bipolar disorder are B-complex vitamins, folic acid, and vitamin C.

Proper nutrition together with key nutritional supplements can go a long way in helping someone suffering from a bipolar disorder.

(NaturalNews) Men who drink coffee regularly may reduce their risk of the most dangerous form of prostate cancer, according to a study conducted by researchers from Harvard Medical School and presented at a Houston conference of the American Association for Cancer Research.

Prostate cancer kills more than 27,000 men in the United States each year, making it the second deadliest cancer in men, surpassed only by lung cancer. Roughly 200,000 new cases are diagnosed in the country each year.

"Few studies have looked prospectively at this association, and none have looked at coffee and specific prostate cancer outcomes," said lead researcher Kathryn Wilson. "We specifically looked at different types of prostate cancer, such as advanced vs. localized cancer or high-grade vs. low-grade cancers."

Researchers studied 50,000 men between 1986 and 2006, recording their coffee consumption once every four years. They found that the rate of advanced prostate cancer was 60 percent lower in those who drank six or more cups of coffee per day than in those who never consumed the beverage. Those who drank between four and five cups per day lowered their risk by 25 percent, while those who drank one to three cups lowered it by 20 percent.

The same risk reduction was seen regardless of whether the men drank caffeinated or non-caffeinated coffee.

No relationship was seen between coffee consumption and the risk of developing prostate cancer, only the risk of developing cancer that eventually progressed into an advanced stage. This might explain why prior studies have found no connection between coffee drinking and prostate cancer risk.

The researchers are unsure exactly how coffee affects cancer risk, although it may have something to do with levels of the sugar-regulating hormone insulin. High insulin levels have previously been correlated with prostate cancer risk, and coffee has been shown to increase the body's use of the hormone.

Coffee is one of the most popular beverages in the world. It is consumed by 54 percent of U.S. adults.

(NaturalNews) Kidney stones are solid pieces of material that form in a kidney. They can stay there or they may travel down the urinary tract until they are eliminated naturally. Unfortunately, kidney stones can also get stuck in the ureter, bladder or urethra. The result can be bleeding, blockage of urine flow and excruciating pain. Thankfully, there are natural ways to greatly reduce your risk of having this most common disorder of the urinary tract, including simply drinking lemonade.

If you've ever experienced the agony of having kidney stones stuck in your urinary tract, you know this is no minor problem. In fact, kidney stones can lead to serious infections and major surgery.

"Back and abdominal pain, blood in the urine, and nausea or vomiting, are the three classic symptoms of kidney stones," Roger L. Sur, MD, director of the University of California at San Diego Comprehensive Kidney Stone Center said in a press statement. "You don't have to have all three, but any of them will come on quickly and be hard to ignore. When you have extreme pain, you should see your doctor or go to an emergency room right away, especially if a fever is present. The presence of fever indicates that you may have an infection in your blood stream which can be life threatening."

Dr. Sur explained that kidney stones composed mostly of calcium can be caused by too much salt in the diet. Excess salt stimulates calcium excretion in urine and that can lead to stone formation. Another type of fairly common kidney stones is formed from uric acid, a waste product that may be caused by a high-protein diet.

Treatment for kidney stones can involve drugs, surgery, or a shock wave procedure called lithotripsy that breaks up the stones. But even after medical treatment, they can come back. "There is a 50 percent chance of getting another stone within five to ten years if you've already had one," Dr. Sur explained.

Of course the best strategy for kidney stones is to avoid getting them in the first place. Reducing dietary salt, excess calcium and protein and drinking plenty of fluids can slash the risk of kidney stones – and now it turns out lemonade can help, too. In a recent study headed by Dr. Sur, lemonade therapy consisting of drinking four ounces of reconstituted lemon juice in two liters of water per day was found to significantly decrease the rate of kidney stone formation from 1.00 to 0.13 stones per patient.

So what is it about lemonade that zaps kidney stones? Dr. Sur pointed out in a media statement that lemons have the highest concentration of citrate of any citrus fruit -- and citrate naturally inhibits kidney stone formation. Other fruit juices not only have less citrate but they are also sometimes supplemented with calcium and oxalate, the very compounds that make up the majority of kidney stones.

Natural health tip: skip homemade or store bought lemonade if it's loaded with sugar. Instead, sweeten lemonade to taste with healthier choices -- honey or stevia.
